WHAT IS COMBAT JU-JUTSU?

A modern, dynamic martial sport blending striking, throwing, grappling and submissions under unified international safety regulations.

Martial Heritage & Modern Sport

The Unified Science of Striking, Grappling, and Submission

Combat Ju-Jutsu is an internationally standardized combat sport rooted in centuries of classical Ju-Jutsu principles, adapted for safe, realistic, and modern athletic competition. Unlike pure grappling or striking arts, Combat Ju-Jutsu incorporates the complete spectrum of combat: standing punches and kicks, clinch maneuvers, throws (takedowns), transition control, and ground submissions (joint locks and chokes).

Under the auspices of the Combat Ju-Jutsu International Federation (CJJIF), athletes compete on standard tatami mats wearing approved gis, fingerless sparring gloves, and certified protective padding, ensuring high-intensity technical competition with uncompromising athlete safety.

Close Combat

Dynamic blend of striking, throwing, and ground submissions

Close Combat is the hallmark competitive discipline of Combat Ju-Jutsu. It allows controlled striking techniques on the feet and standing clinch, dynamic throws (takedowns), transition to the ground, and controlled submissions (joint locks and chokes) under strict international safety rules.

Rules Overview: Athletes compete in rounds on standard tatami mats. Striking is restricted to permissible zones; illegal strikes (such as strikes to the spine, back of head, or groins) result in immediate penalization.
Scoring: Points awarded for clean strikes, high-amplitude throws, dominant positional control, and reversals. Submissions or technical knockouts achieve an immediate victory (Ippon).

Rules Overview: Bouts start standing or immediately in contact. Points are granted for successful takedowns, guard passes, knee-on-belly, mounts, back takes, and submission attempts.
Scoring: Standard international grappling point system with clear time limits. Tap out, verbal concession, or referee stoppage ends the match immediately.
